I am pleased to announce that I got an email and Press Release from the Cruise Festivals Company announcing that the Bolivar High School Concert Choir was named “Grand Champion” in Class AA………and the Bolivar High School Chamber Choir was named “Grand Champion” in the Open HS division!!  There were 50 different Cruise Festivals held and it is an outstanding achievement for the kids and program to win not one but TWO “Grand Champion” Awards!

The trophies will be delivered to BHS in a few weeks and I am sure will be proudly displayed.  Great way to wrap up what was an awesome trip and year.  Congrats to all the students for this achievement.

Cruise Update (Thurs Afternoon)

March 24, 2011

Greetings Bolivar folks!  We are enjoying a beautiful “lazy day at sea” today and the kids are relaxing in the sun and enjoying the activities on the  ship.  Our very own Matt Magana waqs crowned “Sexiest Man In The World” competition!  Our performances went well this morning and our clinician was very impressed with the kids.  Tonight we have the Awards Ceremony followed by a dance and a little later bedcheck.  The kids continue to do a great job and all are doing very well.  We have a little sea sickness but nothing major.  Tomorrow we leave the ship at 8:30am and head to Orlando and Universal Studios Islands of Adventure theme park.  We will leave the park about 6:00pm EST and make a dinner stop then start the long journey home.

Trips like these provide unique experiences and our kids enjoyed one special moment last night.  Many of our kids have become very good friends with a group of Senior Citizens (70+) who think the Bolivar kids walk on water and are simply a joy.  About 30 of the kids found them late last night in a restaurant and gave an impromptu concert.  The tears were streaming down the faces of these Senior Adults as they were overwhlemed with the beauty of the sound and the music. Afterwards the reached in their billfolds and gave me $330 for the our program!!  Needless to say we were shocked and humbled.  In true fashion as we left the restaurant the kids were buzzing about the money and what we should do.  One of the kids mnetioned we should give to the “Make A Wish Foundation” donation drive on the ship and today we made a $330 contribution to that cause.  The crusie staff was most appreciative and very impressed.  As I told the kids if you pay the blessings of life forward you will be rich beyond belief.  Truly the highlight for those kids and myself.

Well off to get ready for dinner and begin the packing up process.  Crossing my fingers for one more good night and then it is on to Orlando.

Cruise Update (Tues Afternoon)

March 23, 2011

Greetings from beautiful Nassua, Bahamas.  The trip has been fabulous so far and the kids have been awesome as well!  They are getting tired and most are begging for earlier bed times if you can believe that!  Here are some highlights so far:

CocoCay: The kids had a great time at the island as they enjoyed the beach, swimming, seeing sharks and stingrays, and enjoying a beautiful tropical paradise.  The highlight of the day was the Beach Volleyball Tourney whici was won by the “Bolivar Beasts” which was comprioed of Jill Cribbs, Amy Follis,  Sarah Magana, Matt Magana, Coach Roweton, and Mr. Scott. Our team went 7-0 on the day and our toughest match was against another team from Bolivar.

The kids are enjoying the dining room experience and trying new foods like snails and other assorted items.  The shows have been great and last nights Scavenger Hunt was a greaty success.  The kids divided up into 6 team and have 15 minutes to video as many Scavenger Challenges as they could going around the ship and involving random passengers.  We then went back and watched all the videos together which was FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY!!  COngrats to the Bel Canto Altos who were the winners!

Today the kids spent the morning shopping in Nassau at the Straw Market and “bartering” with the natives for the lowest prices.  Only thing that slowed our kids was they ran out of money!  They were all proud of their bargains and purchases. Some stayed on the ship this afternoon, others went to Cable Beach and had another great day enjoying the surf, sand, and crystal clear waters.  They loved the taxi rides which were better than any ride at Universal Studios!  The Sailing & Snorkeling trip was a hug success as well and word has it Dr. Geurin swam with 25 sharks!

Tonight is another meal int he dining room and show.  We sing in the morning and then will hang out of the ship and recover as they are getting really tired and word down.

Our BHS Choir kids have done an awesome job and as parents you would be so  very poroud of them to this point.  Enough for now this is costing 65 cents per minute so please forgive the typos as I am not going to pay to proofread!

Will try to post later if I can!
